Jill Bolte Taylor at TED

A stroke of insight.

Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor recently gave a truly inspiring 18-minute talk at the Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) conference, bringing the crowd to a standing ovation.

One morning, she realized she was having a massive stroke. As it happened, as she felt her brain functions including speech, movement and understanding slip away one by one, she studied, remembered and now — after years of recovery — recounts every moment through her exceptionally well delivered speech/performance.

Hers is a powerful and inspirational tale of how our brains define our egotistical selves (primarily through the left hemisphere), and more importantly, how we can make better use of our brains by balancing the self imposed stresses of egocentric living with a spiritually aware consciousness made possible by our right hemispheres to bring us closer in terms of awareness and oneness with the universal intelligence and — ultimately — with one another, in order to make the world a better place.
